Blooming Special Award Presented by Deputy Mayor

Deputy Mayor Cllr Annette James visited Robert Kett Court assisted living scheme to present a special Award to resident Chris Bott in recognition of his hard work creating a very special container garden entry for this year's Wymondham In Bloom competition.  The Town Council supported this year's competition with a grant for participating businesses and organisations.

Cllr James is on the WIB organising Committee and her late father Owen, who lived at RKC for a few years until he passed away in 2022, was an enthusiastic gardener and keen supporter of the competition.  This year WIB created a new Award in his memory: the Owen James Award for Inspirational Gardening.  It will be awarded annually to an individual or group who overcome challenges to create gardens that inspire others.

The 'incredible edible' container garden was cared for by staff, residents, visitors and families and was a true intergenerational and community effort.  Everyone has been enjoying the produce which included tomatoes, chillis, potatoes, onions, strawberries and much more.  Cllr James was gifted bags of potatoes, tomatoes and onions to take home.

"I was so pleased to be able to give this Award to Chris because he has achieved so much and really deserves it.  He is keeping my dad's gardening legacy at RKC alive and for that I thank him" said Cllr James.
