Council Offices Progress
The Town Council is thinking about establishing new premises on it’s own land, saving on the rent, maintenance and running costs of the present aging and inefficient building. We promised to keep you informed on progress, and some big steps forward have been made.
Vincent & Gorbing, the architects appointed for the project, have now presented plans for an office building and maintenance base at Ketts Park, with adjacent parking. The site is to the west of the existing community hall, on the right as you enter the site from Harts Farm Road. It will replace the present Council offices in Middleton Street, currently leased from South Norfolk Council, and no longer fit for current needs.
The Council has accumulated reserves which will meet more than a third of the £1.5 million plus cost of the project. Savings on the cost of the lease, and on the running costs of the present building, will pay off charges on a Public Works Loan Board facility, and potentially there will be a Community Infrastructure Levy contribution. It is envisaged that all these sources will enable the project to be completed with no increase in Council Tax required from ratepayers. When completed, funds will be available for the next major project – there’s sure to be one in 10-15 years time!
The architects, in conjunction with the working group of councillors set up to manage the project, expect to make a planning application to South Norfolk Council shortly, after completion of required environmental surveys.
Plans for the whole project are on display until 6 April in the Council offices. The Council would very much appreciate comments from the Wymondham community.
