Refurbished gardens in Wymondham opens in tribute to late Queen

A REVAMPED garden area in Chandler’s Hill in Wymondham, renamed the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Garden in tribute to the late monarch, was formally opened by the Town Council on Friday (27th October).

At a small ceremony held at the Garden, Wymondham Mayor Cllr Suzanne Nuri-Nixon unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and thanked all of those who had contributed their time, effort and expertise to complete the project.

Cllr Nuri-Nixon in particular highlighted the role played by Deputy Mayor Cllr Annette James who oversaw the completion of the project instigated by former Wymondham councillor Kathryn Cross in December 2021.

The revamped garden was designed by Lesley Clarke and Spooner Row firm MN Landscapes undertook the work. There was also praise and thanks for local volunteers Janis Raynsford, Janet Stevens, Greening Wymondham, Wymondham in Bloom and former Cllr Peter Broome who offered his past professional expertise to check plans.

Cllr Nuri-Nixon thanked Wymondham Town Council’s staff and grounds’ team who look after and now maintain the revamped garden.

Cllr Annette James, who was instrumental in getting the project finished, said “it is wonderful to see the vision for the garden finally realised and to be able to say thank you to the many people who contributed their time, effort and skills to make it happen.  It is a fitting tribute to our late Queen.
