First 'Sustainable Wymondham' Meeting Declared a Success

On Sunday (19th November), the new Sustainable Wymondham group - which is supported by the Town Council - held its first public event, attended by nearly 40 individuals and representatives from local organisations.

In August 2023 the Town Council declared a climate emergency.  Full Council agreed by a majority vote to set up a constituted group made up of Town Councillors, Community Groups, local businesses and interested residents to create a strategy and action plan for delivering a thriving, sustainable, Wymondham.  Sunday's meeting was the first step towards achieving that goal.  Cllrs Paul and Joe Barrett, Julian Fulcher and Annette James, with their resident colleagues, created thought provoking presentations and ran lively workshop sessions to gather ideas from the audience.  Next steps include collating the feedback, identifying quick wins and longer term strategies and then working with the wider community to make change happen.

Cllr Joe Barrett said: “It was our privilege to host an open meeting as part of Sustainable Wymondham’s mission to co-produce a strategy and action plan with Wymondham residents. We were delighted with the success of the event, the number of practical ideas suggested and the enthusiasm of the residents who attended. Going forwards we plan to hold another meeting while developing the ideas into a strategy and action plan which, once ready, will be taken to full Council.”
